Solveig Ovanger has been an autodidact artist since 1978 and qualified for membership in Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts in 1980. She has previously worked with functional objects in leather and fish skin. During the last decade she has turned her attention to sculptures and installations wherein she explores both the material, and the associative and visual qualities of the material. The focus have lately been on fish as material and inspiration. Solveig Ovanger has had solo exhibitions at North Norwegian Art Centre, Tromsø Art Centre, Sogn og Fjordane Art Museum, Hedmark Art Centre and Gallery of Northern Norway, she has participated in several group and touring exhibitions in Scandinavia, Russia and Iceland. She has received numerous national grants for artists.
