Inspired by history, tradition and function, I’m currently exploring the ambiguity of jewellery and the chain, and their position to convey everything from beauty and strength to restriction and pain.
By continuously or partly soldering the links together I lock the chains movement, bringing forward its sculptural qualities. When picked up and placed on the body it will keep its winding shape, building up a tension or suspense with its slithering-like movement, generating a powerful, yet stifling notion.
To capture a movement is to keep still, an attempt to freeze time or a moment. A wish to stop, a split second of silence or full concentration towards an object, a detail, a thought or a feeling. There’s a before and after, but most importantly there’s an inbetween. It’s like holding your breath.
