Charlotte Avigail Jutrem is a Norwegian Israeli glass artist based in Norway. She grew up in an environment influenced by Scandinavian design, and was introduced to glass design by her grandfather Arne Jon Jutrem. She completed a BFA in Interior Design in Israel, and a BFA in Ceramic and Glass Design at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, Israel. The artist was early influenced by the Scandinavian Art and Craft movement and wanted to design and blow functional glass objects, combined with the influence of the Nordic nature, light and design. By having a multicultural identity, the theme of belonging and the contrast of her two different cultures are present in all her works.
Divided & Complete
Being a person belonging to two cultures, means being both divided and complete. The longing for unity and belonging becomes sometimes central. Sharing a meal is an unifying activity occurring in every culture. I have designed a unique service of glassware spesifically for my bicultural family. The objects are a visualization of our bicultural identity and different personalities, shown through colors and pattern.
